Plaid Attitude

My first outfit post of the new year!!! A few posts ago I mentioned I'm gonna buy at least one vintage piece in every city/country I visit while traveling. So I thought what better way to bring in 2015, than with this amazing vintage jumpsuit. I picked it up at a vintage shop in Paris. I wasn't sure about it initially but

convinced me to get it and I'm glad I did.

Me and vintage have an on again/off again relationship. The thing is, it's so easy to get sidetracked. The annoying thing about trends is they kind of cloud your vision. I mean, I'm guilty of gravitating towards them even when I don't particularly care for them. I guess for convenience, better yet laziness. When I don't wanna hunt for amazing/one of pieces that actually add to fashion conversations, instead of conform to them. Wait, wait...I actually always wanna do this, who am I kidding. "What the hell's the point of blogging if you can see my look on a shit ton of other blogs?" Is what I asked myself coming into this year, my third year of blogging, my all or nothing year, my get my shit together year. Soooooo I promise I'll keep it fresh and new from now on, because that's what I wanna do.

I expect you guys to call me out if I default on that last statement!! Anyway, it should come as no surprise that my hair has changed again. Hair ADD is so real, but I think I'm gonna stick with this one for a least until Spring. I'm trying to keep up with Fran so I went purple haha. I'm loving playing around with color, I didn't think I'd be so into it but it's been fun thus far.

I always have to shout out my booski Alicia, who keeps my hair healthy and on point! So book your appointment with her, just click her name and thank me later. And no, I don't get any commission for that reference, I'm just spreading love haha. However for other links on this blog, that last statement is not applicable lololol! I kid I kid I joke (kinda but not really).

In all seriousness though she's awesome so check her out. Now let's talk about this look a little more. Last year I posted this jacket, here, and I'm just as in love with it now as I was then. I found it thrifting and it was upcycled by Hamid Holloman, I really love his work. I feel like I'm in PR lol, but you guys should check out his work as well. I've been living in this jacket and another also found thrifting. Which brings me to another topic I'll be digging more into this year, mixing high and low.

I really hate saying low because I don't feel that inexpensive means low quality or lesser value at all, but I'll elaborate.

Mixing high and low is actually really tricky to accomplish. While this is my opinion and you may think differently...there are two dynamics that standout to me when I think of fashion. People who wear beautiful clothing that I'll never be able (or willing) to buy and people who wear "fast fashion" which for me lacks quality and individuality. This is where style comes into play, finding a happy medium.

Using this look as an example: to create this look I took a vintage jumpsuit, thrifted jacket & hat, vintage bag, and Mulberry booties (I got on sale, I only shop designer on sale). This high low mix works perfectly together because each piece makes up for what the others lack. The jumpsuit alone can look dated, the boot adds edge, the jacket adds personal touch/individuality, the clutch adds flair, and the hat completes the look.

You don't have to spend your whole paycheck trying to keep up with the Jones's. You just have to understand how to mix and match what you already have. I can think of at least 5 different ways to style this jumpsuit without buying anything, by using what's in my closet.

I really wanna get back to doing videos this year. I think I'll begin doing a few closet sessions on high-low/mix & matching. If you have any other requests or topics you want me to talk about, shoot me an email or leave a comment below. I also plan to do a few short vids on home/interior design. I actually get the keys to my new apartment today, thank the lord!!! I'll be sharing somewhat of a design diary for the concept of each room here on the blog and via my social media. I'm so excited to get started on that.

Welp that's all she wrote today. Just want to keep you guys in the loop regarding the plans going forward this year. I hope you love these photos as much as I do :)
