Meet Shepherd's Table

I'm a firm believer in giving back. No matter how big or small you give it all counts. When Downtown Silver Spring approached me to head their trendsetter campaign, they wanted someone who embodied style whose also committed to their community. Our partnership couldn't end on a better note, donating to an amazing local organization Shepherd's Table. Their mission reads: Shepherd’s Table is a nonprofit organization in downtown Silver Spring, supported by volunteers, religious organizations, government, businesses, foundations, and individual donors. Our mission is to provide help to people who are homeless or in need by providing basic services, including meals, social services, medical support, clothing, and other assistance in an effective and compassionate manner.

Homelessness is a serious issue throughout the US. It's estimated that over 636 thousand people are homeless in the US. In the DC area there are over 11 thousand people without homes. I can't help but to notice this as I travel throughout the city, and thankfully through my blog I am able to shed light on this topic. I hope that it encourages you to get involved with local charities and to give back in the form of volunteering or donations.

Shepard's Table offers a wide variety of services. Meals, an eye clinic, their clothes closet, and resource center make up their core services that aid people in need. The work they do is absolutely amazing! Looking at all they do not only to provide services, but to place people back on the road to having a home is inspiring. I'm guilty of not giving back as much as I should, there is so much more I, better yet, we can do. Nothing feels better than lending a helping hand. Gathering a few friends or neighbors together for a charitable cause is a great way to build community.

For more information on Shepard's Table visit their Facebook Page or click HERE for volunteer information. I plan to start volunteering once a month and committing myself to enriching my community through supporting local organizations. If you know of any local charities leave them in the comments! I'd love to maybe organize a give back group with you guys!

I hope you enjoyed taking trips around DTSS! This was such a fun partnership and now you know plenty of things to do if you're ever in the area.
